The gymnastics club Lahjan Tytöt (Lahja's Girls) was founded in Turku in 1971 by Mrs Lahja Salviander,
an experienced dance and gymnastics teacher.
The club currently has around 700 members and about 60 trainers, teachers and musical accompanists.
Lahjan Tytöt offers a wide range of gymnastics, ballet and dance classes for all ages, from toddlers to
pensioners. Classes include aerobics, toning, classical ballet, basic gymnastics and loads more.
There are also excercise classes available for boys and men.
Lahjan Tytöt has a long and successfull history in aesthetic group gymnastics, which is an international
competitive sport that emphasizes good co-ordination, physical strength, flexibility and sense of rhythm.
The teams are made up of a minimum of 6 girls and compete in their own age groups (10-12years, 12-14
years etc). Each team competes with its own choreography to a piece of music, sometimes using balls,
ropes, hoops, ribbons or clubs. Lahjan Tytöt also has teams competing in mixed dance.
The club has several performing groups available for hire for various events and happenings. Be it a big
outdoor parade or a small family wedding , you are sure to find a group to suit your needs!
Lahjan Tytöt is also offering dance/excercise-themed birthday parties for energetic children, suitable for
ages 2-12.
Apart from being one of the best known gymnastics clubs in its home-town of Turku, Lahjan Tytöt is
also quite well-known abroad. The club values international relations, and has a long and prosperous
history of exchange with Upland Country Day School in Pennsylvania, USA. Lahjan Tytöt also works
closely with a German sports club, Vereinigte Turnerschaft, in Zweibrucken, Germany. Teams in all
age groups frequently travel all over Europe and the US to compete and perform.
